Manitou Forklifts Oregon
Regular inspections could greatly help to reduce forklift maintenance and save you numerous amounts of money in the long-run. The standing joke within the business is a lift truck technician coining the saying "Pay me now, or pay me later," because it generally costs more to procrastinate when it comes to lift trucks. For instance, the minor fixes which go unrepaired can eventually turn into expensive repairs.
Tilt Cylinders
Oil leaks are a very serious problem if they are left unchecked. Inspect for damage or oil leaks regularly. Oil leakage can cause uncontrolled mast movement and this could be extremely unsafe. Whether the leaks are outside or inside the cylinder, the end result can result in loss of vital fluid and cylinder drift. When leaks or damage are detected, you normally will need to replace the seals or the entire cylinder assembly.
Chains
Be sure to pay attention since you don't want mast lift chains to stretch beyond acceptable limits. Watch carefully for any signs of wear and tear or damage. Check frequently with a chain wear gauge so as to monitor the wear. If the chain is worn beyond 2 percent or rusted, it is time to replace the chain. Following these tips will help keep your machine running optimally.
Mast
The mast has to be moving smoothly down and up when using the lift control lever. Be sure to check to see if the mast is tilting backwards and forwards in a smooth way. You may have to lubricate the mast strip sliding surfaces if the sliding surfaces are binding. Also lubricate their fittings, since there is a fitting located on both sides of the inner mast. The lift bracket side rollers are another lubrication spot.
Forks
The forks have to be inspected for damage, wear and cracks as cracked or worn forks could fail with out any warnings. Of course, any damaged fork means immediately taking the truck out of service. If the cracks are deeper than just on the surface, they must be replaced because they really can't be safely fixed.
