Forklift Battery Safety
The power to operate electric lift trucks is supplied by big industrial batteries which need to be charged frequently and maintained correctly. Safety procedures should be followed while connecting the battery to the charger. It is very vital to inspect fluid levels in the battery.
Personal Protective Equipment - PPE
It is vital for workers working with a forklift battery to wear eye protection. Other PPG comprise safety glasses, goggles, or a full face shield. The best way to protect both clothing and skin from leaked acid or other residue is to wear an approved apron on the body and thick rubber gloves on the hands.
Emergency Eyewash Station
An emergency eyewash station must be situated near the charging area. The path to the station must not be obstructed and an injured employee should be able to reach the eyewash station from the charging area in 10 seconds while walking.
Charger Safety
The battery and charger should be at the same amperage. It should be turned off while the battery is being plugged in.
Open Flames
While in the vicinity of a charging area and battery, open flames are not allowed. Never permit items like lighters or matches to be used when an employee is checking the fluid levels in the battery.
Ventilation
It is vital to keep the battery charging area correctly ventilated. The recharging process can release fumes. These fumes are both toxic and explosive.
