Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
Aerial platforms and scissor lifts enable employees to work on elevated structures in a safe way and allow them to reach things and structures. These lifts and platforms provide friendly user controls to maneuver the base and the platform independently. This allows the machine to get around objects. There are numerous available lift designs that are suitable for particular environments and applications.
Scissor Lift
The scissor lift utilizes a series of crisscrossed linked steel arms. These arms are designed to create an X patterned support system when the lift is raised vertically. Employees make use of a large rectangle platform which is attached to the top of the lifting mechanism. There are support railings along the edges to provide added safety.
Scissor lifts are great for pavement, compact and hard dirt surfaces and concrete as they feature a low profile. These machinery make use of either a combustion engine or an electric motor to power the lifting mechanism as well as the lift.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
Rough terrain scissor lifts utilize the same technology as the regular type of scissor lift. The rough terrain unit varies in that it features a specific base that is designed for uneven surfaces. The rough terrain also offers oversized all terrain tires and a higher ground clearance. These units offer lower lifting heights overall due to the machine's higher center of gravity.
Telescopic Boom Lift
The telescopic boom lift provides a telescoping beam which rises vertically and diagonally. This machinery provides a small work platform outfitted with controls to operate the boom. The controls use a combustion or an IC engine in order to power the hydraulics and lift the boom.
Articulating Boom Lift
An articulating boom lift has two telescopic booms which are attached with a moving elbow. This lifting machinery provides a small work platform or a bucket outfitted with hand controls that are used to control the boom. The articulating lift is capable of reaching over objects and on top of buildings.
