Forklift Motors
Buying a forklift is not to be taken lightly. A forklift is a big capital expense, and a complex machine with a motor strong enough to execute heavy-lifting tasks. The price tag for a forklift ranges from $10,000 to $30,000, comparable to the cost of a small truck. If purchasing a second-hand forklift, be sure to have it checked for possible mechanical problems.

The two types of forklift motors are: internal combustion or electric. Forklifts with electric motors are normally more expensive than those with internal combustion motors. The size of the motor must suit the type of work for which the forklift will be utilized. A forklift with a big motor costs more compared to one with a motor that is smaller.

Gasoline or propane powered motors are usually stronger compared to electric motor and are capable of raising heavier weight. The downside is that gas motors tend to develop issues more frequently compared to electric motors. Depending upon the price of gas or propane, gas powered forklifts could be more costly to run than electric powered forklifts.

Reliable forklift manufacturers include Mitsubishi Caterpillar, Crown Equipment Corp., Toyota Industries and NACCO Industries. Before making a decision, research the different manufacturers and the availability of parts. Prices, reviews and testimonials could be found on line.
