To give you an idea of the cost, a Nissan Propane Forklift dating from the late 1990s will run you roughly $11,000 to $14,000. More than likely, you would be able to find a unit like this with less than 5,000 operating hours, around 15 feet of lifting capacity and cushion tires. However, a used Nissan forklift truck which has less than 5,000 hours can be found for under $7,000. This option may be a little bit of an older unit than some others, but remember; everything revolves around the operating hours. A model like this will probably have a pretty good load capacity of around 5,000 lbs.
A brand new Nissan forklift, dating from the year 2005 to the current year, can be found for approximately $10,000. Usually, these models would have a regular lift capacity ranging from 4,000 to 5,000 pounds. Usually, a unit similar to this would run smoothly and have cushion tires. Of course, newer units usually work smoother compared to older ones.
Types of Forklifts
Normally, forklifts are categorized in 2 particular ways: by the structure of the lift truck and the kind of fuel it takes. Based on structure, the following types of forklifts are amongst the most popular:
Standard Forklift: The standard forklift comprises the regular warehouse machinery we are all familiar with. These forklifts offer a lifting capacity of 3,000 to 5,000 lbs. They have a height capacity of about 20 feet.
Reach Forklift: The narrow aisle forklift and reach forklift are the type of forklifts found in distribution centers and warehouses which have limited storage space. Narrow construction means that it is not able to lift as much as a typical lift truck model, although, it has an extendable mast that can easily carry loads around 40 feet.
Telescopic Forklift: Telescopic forklifts are also referred to as telehandlers, telescopic handler or extendable reach forklifts. These types lift truck trucks are a more rugged and heavy-duty version of a standard forklift. These units provide a telescopic boom which is capable of being raised up and extended out. Normally, these models are used on rough terrain. They can can handle loads up to 70 feet high
Straight Mast Forklift: The straight mast forklift is most normally used to perform tasks on rough terrain. These types of forklifts are only capable of moving loads vertically, not like a telescopic model. These units could reach a height of 10 to 30 feet, while lifting loads up to 12,000 pounds.
