Electric forklifts are recommended for work sites which have limited ventilation because they produce no exhaust fumes and are fairly quiet. They are designed to be powered by large, industrial-strength batteries. Because the electric lift truck batteries require charging, the worksite should have a charging station. The batteries are durable and could be re-charged up to 1,500 times before they have to be replaced. The charging station should be situated in a ventilated area and include an emergency eyewash station and an acid spill kit.
Liquid propane powered forklifts are commonly used in modern industrial operations because propane has several benefits over diesel and electric. Propane models are cleaner to use than diesel-powered units. There is no down time needed to recharge an industrial battery, and the cost of electricity is more compared to the cost of propane. A forklift propane tank could be easily and quickly refueled by changing out the empty tank with a full tank. Normally an off-site supplier refills the empty tank, making refueling really safe and efficient.
Diesel and Gasoline
Gasoline and Diesel forklifts are the machinery of choice for rough terrain and outdoor applications. They are commonly found on construction sites and lumber yards. Their disadvantages comprise fairly high maintenance needs, odorous exhaust and fairly high fuel costs. Their benefits comprise reliability in tough conditions and a longer lifespan compared to other units. Diesel and gasoline units must be refueled at a supply station on site which meets safety and health policies.
