Before purchasing a new or used forklift, there are several things that you must take into account. Consider the following things before choosing.
Step 1: What are your requirements?
Knowing both the kinds and weight of your loads must be taken into consideration. Consider the maximum lifting height that you will need. Find out whether you will be utilizing the forklift outdoors or indoors, or both. Measure the width of your narrowest aisles and calculate how much maneuvering space there is. What will be the duration of use per day when it comes to hours?
Step 2: Is a used forklift your best alternative?
If you will be utilizing the forklift four hours a day or less, you can likely get away with buying used.
Step 3: Fuel options
Electric forklifts are recommended for utilizing indoors because they are relatively quiet and produce no exhaust emissions. They have large batteries which should last eight hours before you have to recharge it. The purchase cost of electric forklifts is higher, but the costs of operation are lower. On the plus side, they do not require fuel storage area. They also tend to last longer because they have less moving components. However, the time it takes to recharge the battery needs to be factored in. This could take up to 16 hours, including cooling and recharging. And battery recharging stations might be required.
Step 4: Tire choice
Cushion tires are used in forklifts. There are some options when it comes to tires. Some are made of solid rubber, a few are inflated, and several combine qualities of both - solid pneumatic tires. For indoor application, cushion tires are suggested. For outdoor use, pneumatic tires are better. Solid pneumatic tires are less likely to be punctured by rough terrain or sharp objects so they are the best alternative for risky conditions.
Step 5: Consider additional alternatives
When buying a used or new lift truck truck, think about additional options. Look at the different attachments which you may need to customize your forklift. Check out the forklift's safety features and ergonomics
Step 6: Evaluate your alternatives
It is a good idea to rent different brands and models and see what suits your needs the best. A good dealer will agree to help you with this. This would guarantee that the type of forklift you ultimately buy is the correct one for your needs. Be sure to consult with your dealer.
